PASSAGES

CMHA participants

December 2007

Two years ago, in conjunction with the Durham Art Gallery, the Grey-Bruce branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) assembled an exhibition of work produced by participants in its art programs from five different communities in the Grey-Bruce area. Once again, the Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition of recent work by CMHA participants organized by Mark Harwood.

This year additional funds were made available to the program through an Ontario Arts Council education grant. This show attempts to include at least one work of each participant in the art program as a visual testimony to survival, healing and hope. In this context, the work embodies the nature of a passage from one realm to another—an affirmation of identity and being a viable part of a larger community. The word ‘passage’ suggests a course, migration or exploration that may ultimately result in discovery. This exhibition pays tribute to that pursuit.
