Volunteer at the Durham Art Gallery and contribute to the growing culture in our community, meet new people, and become a part of something unique.

Since it’s establishment in 1979, the Durham Art Gallery has relied on volunteer community members to help inspire and educate people through a wide range of contemporary art. Working in collaboration with staff, DAG Volunteers support Gallery initiatives and services, delivering a wonderful experience for all our visitors.

We are currently looking volunteers to help manage our front desk by greeting and touring with our visitors and members to help maintain our landscape design of the exterior of our gallery.

Contact the gallery for more information by phone 519 369-3692 or emailing our Gallery Assistant at lindsey@durhamartgallery.com

Artist Proposals

The Durham Art Gallery generally produces exhibitions based on curatorial research and does not actively solicit exhibition proposals. Artists are welcome to send information about their work, which could be considered in future programming decisions.

The Gallery has two primary exhibition streams. The West Gallery is for professional artists with established exhibition records; the Gallery pays an artist fee and helps with the delivery of the work. The East Gallery is for local or emerging artists; the Gallery does not pay a fee.

In both cases the Gallery coordinates installation, and produces and mails an invitation. Exhibition openings in both galleries happen at the same time. A floorplan is available here.

Exhibition Assistance Funding

The Gallery is an Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Recommender. If you live in our region and have a professional exhibition (in this region or elsewhere) you can request funds to help cover the costs of shipping or framing.

Please visit the Ontario Arts Council website to download program guidelines, an application form and to see a map of the exhibition assistance zones.
