The Realm of Fantasy

Dreamers. Make-believe. Flights of fancy.
Youth artists from West Grey, Hanover and beyond have been collaborating with The Durham Art Gallery, the Launch Pad in Hanover, Edge Hill Country School, Spruce Ridge Community School, and John Diefenbaker Secondary School to create and present this unique exhibition. Under the direction of creative leader & curator, Anna Gruda, the young artists have transformed the East Gallery into an ‘other-worldly’ paradise.

There is a current resurgence of Fantasy in our popular culture. Maybe it’s a respite from a constant, online, and wired ‘now’. Perhaps it helps frame and answers questions that arise in our subconscious in our daily surfing. Through the use of fantasy, we learn to fill the gaps between knowledge, reality, and experience. And perhaps fantasy becomes a welcome respite from the noise of the internet ‘now’, and a vital coping mechanism in the reality of these contemporary times. That, and it’s just so much darn fun.

Flying beasts. Fantastical worlds. Mythical creatures. Everything is probable and limited only by ones’ imagination. Welcome to all possible things! Welcome to The Realm of Fantasy.
