Dianne Bos - A Survey introduces us to the fascinating world of pinhole photography, the art and science of photography without a camera.

A 'pinhole camera' represents the most rudimentary of photographic technology, using basic science to create an image: light travels through a tiny hole to create a photographic image in a light proof container.

For twenty years Bos has used everything from tin cans and empty film canisters to entire rooms as cameras to create dream-like images with an underlying inquisitiveness about the passage of time and the natural world. The photographs evoke memories, yet their long exposure times of three to twenty minutes often distort these same comforting and familiar elements.
"From images of famous international tourist sites to constructions of spiral galaxies, Bos gives the viewer a unique and somewhat romantic perspective of our universe," says Tony Massett, the curator.

Dianne Bos has an extensive exhibition history and has been teaching photography at Sheridan College in Toronto. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, she has worked as an arts educator and curator since 1978 for various public art institutions in Ontario including Oakville Galleries, The Power Plant, and Harbourfront Centre. In the 1980s, she also wrote and performed music, film scores, and videos with the pop band Perfect World.
