New Work in Photography
Stephen Mason
May 2002
Ayton native Stephen Mason is a recent graduate of Sheridan College's applied photography program. This show of portraits represents the culmination of two years of work.
The photo portrait is a difficult form by which to make a creative statement, but Mason uses whimsical, colourful arrangements and adopts a comedic approach to his subject matter.
Using a traditional camera but scanning the negatives digitally allows him a greater freedom for manipulation by which he builds the image. A graduate of JDSS in Hanover, Mason intends to pursue work in the commercial world of book and magazine illustration while continuing his discourse in portraiture.
