Austrian artist Eva Wohlgemuth has had an epiphany during her recent residency in Durham. Eva has been here for almost two months as a guest of UMAS - United Media Arts. An outdoor exhibition of her new work is being coordinated by the Durham Art Gallery with sculpture and light being installed directly on the river.

Eva WohlgemuthRIVER CODE consists of rotating balls immersed in the water as it pours over the Middle Dam, powered by the flow of the crashing water. Computer codes printed on the balls both struggle to surface for air. These blue balls are echoed a few meters downstream where the artist will have replaced the twelve globe lamps on the wooden pedestrian Heritage Bridge with matching blue lamps.

Eva Wohlgemuth’s exhibition RIVER CODE will be installed on the Middle Dam and the Heritage Bridge in Durham for only four days: September 10 to 13. During those days you can visit her at the UMAS studio across the Gallery, where Eva will display the web version of the project and much more.
