Dawn Tremblay and Judith Pace Turner share a love of colour and texture, so it seemed natural that they should join forces in this exhibition. Their theme is related to colour and fibre, with Dawn’s display of hooked and embroidered pieces ranging from rugs to cloth dolls, and Judith’s paper collages which are reminiscent of textiles and quilts.

Dawn is a fibre artist living in Chatsworth, Ontario. She spends her spare time playing with ribbons, silk, wool and any critter with a fleece that can be spun. “When I moved to the area several people told me they were interested in seeing what I did once I focused my art. Well, this is it! Fibre is my focus and I’ll always enjoy experimenting with its many incarnations. Currently I am spinning, knitting, weaving and creating art dolls. Dyeing and colour exploration threads through all of these projects. Art doesn’t have to be something for the walls — it is a state of being, a way of seeing.”

Judith, who lives in Durham, has been working with collage and mixed media for ten years. Her inspiration always comes from colour and its endless possibilities. She makes use of a wide variety of Japanese papers to achieve unusual effects through opaque and transparent overlays, striving for a sense of mystery that is often supported by an invisible underlying structure. Most of the paper she uses has been hand-coloured or embellished to achieve specific effects. For this show she has chosen to use variations on the square as a support for a full range of colourations, creating a feast for the eyes.
